New Year Brings Online Gambling Ban to Germany
Many countries seem to be following the United States footsteps by banning online gambling in some form or fashion. Norway was the first after the US and then Turkey was next when they added online gambling restrictions. Now Germany has banned online gambling as well. Back in mid-December all sixteen German state legislatures voted to not allow any form of Web-based gambling or brokering of games on the Internet in the country. This ban went into effect on January 1st.
The new law covers many issues of online gambling. It contains information on placing a bet from Germany with a foreign gaming company. It also discusses online gambling money transactions. Instead of doing what the US did and ban online money transactions with gambling sites, Germany has given their states the power to order Internet service providers to block websites that promote illegal betting. They will also be able to stop banks from transferring money from transactions that are gambling related.
There will most likely be conflict from the European Union against Germany. The Union has been working to open up the online gambling in several states including Germany. Out of the sixteen states in Germany, thirteen have already submitted the ban for approval. That is according to the report from the All Headline News.
