Online Gambling Ads in UK May Not Be
New UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown is rethinking allowing online gambling advertising on TV and radio in the United Kingdom according to a report in the UK Times.
Currently no gambling advertising is allowed but former PM Tony Blair and Tessa Jowell the former Culture Secretary are trying to put fort a new Gambling Act putting an end to the band.
The Gambling Commission has recently released information about gambling advertising rules. They are set up to ensure that the ads are socially responsible as well as to protect children, young adults and any one else that may be vulnerable to the promotion of gambling.
The Commission has said, "We welcome the industry code of practice which will supplement the CAP and BCAP codes of practice for the advertising and promotion of gambling. The Commission will monitor the effectiveness of the industry code of practice in delivering socially responsible advertising."
The rules and guidelines were set to take effect in September with the Gambling Act but now those plans may be changed. With the recent election of a new Prime Minister, the attitude towards online gambling may be shifting.
