PartyGaming May Be Turning DoJ's Heads

Aug 14, 2007

According to a report published in ThisIsMoney.co.uk, the US Department of Justice (DoJ) may be turning their attentions to online gambling operators 88.com and PartyGaming. Both companies were reportedly in contact with the US DoJ earlier this year, and since have pulled out of the US market.

This story is not yet confirmed, but if true, the DoJ may seek to recoup revenue from the two companies to the tune of more than $1-billion. According to the report, the DoJ could pursue compensation of $900-million from PartyGaming and $120-million from 888.com.

Neither of the companies hold a significant share of market in the British region, which stands to reason if the DoJ does in fact prosecute 888 and PartyGaming on the grounds of UIGEA violation, the result would severely impact the future existence of these operations.
