Poker Pro Sues Harrah
Sally Ann Boyer is the 2007 World Series of Poker Ladies Event champion and she recently filed a lawsuit against Harrah’s. The lawsuit was filed because Boyer says the company used her name and likeness in advertising without her authorization.
Not only does Boyer claim false advertising but she also claims that Harrah’s falsely claimed that she endorsed the World Series of poker Academy. Post-Oak Productions was also named in the suit as they did business with the World Series of Poker Academy.
Boyer claims in the suit that the WSOP Academy has been running advertisements with a picture of her after winning the Ladies Event in 2007. The advertisements have a quote that reads: “The quickest way to your WSOP Bracelet!” and the ad also calls Boyer an Academy Graduate, which she is not.
"Boyer never said nor authorized a statement on her behalf to the effect that participating in the WSOP Academy was 'the quickest way to your WSOP Bracelet!' or intimating that her success in the tournament was attributable to her experience attending one day of a two-day WSOP Academy event," alleges the lawsuit.
Boyer is seeking a restraining order, an injunction and recovery of profits that were associated with the company using her likeness and name. Boyer is seeking unspecified damages.
