South African Online Gambling Worries Subdued
These statistics are from the Trade and Industry Department of South Africa, where this week Fungai Sibanda the Trade and Industries acting deputy director announced there is no threat to the land based casinos due to online gambling.
This announcement was awaited as they prepare to amend the National Gambling Amendment Bill. Several different factions, the civil society, gambling operators, and some religious groups have put this bill together; this Bill will make gambling on the Internet legal.
Land based casinos owners petitioned that they should gain automatic licensing to operate Internet casinos, this demand was rejected and the licensing process it is said will be equal, and fair giving all applying for online gambling licenses a chance to be licensed. The reply of rejection to the land based casino owners was based on the fact that there is no country that gives an Internet casino operating license automatically because a company owns a land based casino.
