Support Increasing for Online Gambling Bill
All three new cosponsors were Democrats who had initially voted against Bill Frist's bill in 2006, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). Frank's bill is their opportunity to get rid of the law they did not support to begin with.
One of the supporters is Joe Baca (D-Calif.) who currently serves on the House Financial Services Committee, along with Barney Frank. Baca also serves on the House Agriculture and House Natural Resources committees.
Neil Abercrombie (D-Hawaii) is an interesting addition to the cosponsors list, as any form of gambling is illegal in his home state. He also serves on the House Natural Resources Committee along with the House Armed Services Committee. California has yet another representative joining the list as well with Rep. Lynn Woolsey.
She is currently serving on 3 separate committees, those being the Education and Labor, Science and Technology, and Foreign Affairs committees.
With each of the new members of the house assisting the sponsorship of the HR 2046, the UIGEA continues to appear less and less appealing. Although it passed into law in October 2006, the opposition there to is mounting, as the implications are being felt across the world. The gaming market place is one that is varied as it is. Today, the online gaming marketplace is ever changing and developing, sometimes for the good, others well there is the UIGEA.
With this and other bills moving forward it is only a matter of time until the impact is felt on the current gambling situation.
