Support for HR 2046

As time has passed, Congressman Barney Frank has been able to add names to his list of supporters for HR 2046. Barney Frank is currently the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, and the bills primary author. In the proposed bill, the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act will create a regulation and taxation process of online gambling in the United States, as apposed to banning it as was done by the UIGEA of 2006.

In July five more Congressman have signed on to the Bill, including Representatives Anthony D. Weiner (D-N.Y.) and Bennie G. Thompson (D-Miss.) who attached their names in support of the bill on July 10th. Late last week Representatives Steven R. Rothman (D-N.J.), Michael M. Honda (D-Calif.) and Albert Russell Wynn (D-Md.) also joined the cause. The addition of these representatives brings the number of co-sponsors to 32, from the bill's original 11 when Frank first introduced the Act to the House this past April.

The new sign-ons join the subsequent politicians who have previously endorsed the IGREA to be overseen by the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network.

It is still being encouraged that anyone interested in supporting the act should contact their political representatives and voice their support there for. This will encourage the politicians to re-examine the impact and implications created by the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, and seek alternatives such as HR 2046. It is strongly suggested not to contact only the House Representatives, but also the Senators for a given area, as the bill passes in the house, it will create a basis of support in the Senate for approval.

Should HR 2046 pass, the UIGEA will be not longer effective. The continued invasion of personal freedom will be ended and regulation and effective measures to protect citizens from fraud, underage gambling and other possible ills will be enacted.
