The Banning of Video Poker

Jul 1, 2008

The house members say that there's a loophole somewhere in the state's ban of video poker that needs to be closed.

A House judiciary panel on Tuesday approved  legislation that would somehow eliminate the sweepstakes that would me it possible allow a person to play a game similar to a slot machine or poker machine to reveal what they won and if they did.

Democratic Rep. Ray Rapp of Madison County said that these kinds of games are showing up everywhere and really need to be stopped. The state banned video poker as of July 2007.

The bill wouldn’t prohibit the sweepstakes all together -- only those that provide the option for players to play a game on a computer terminal to disclose their winnings.

The measure now moves to the full house.
