The Battle Continues Between U.S. AND EU

Sep 30, 2007
Author: Sandy Kitchen
Earlier in the week the United States and the European Union talks had come a stand still, Friday the United States came back with their offer which the European Union rejected stating it was "insufficient."

The European Union has made it clear that unlike the battle in the court of the World Trade Organization between the United States and the countries of Antigua and Barbuda they will not be seeking a monetary settlement, nor will they accept one.  The European Union has different ideas about what the want in a settlement from the United States, the will settle for no less than the United States opening up their service industry such as insurance, which will cost the United States billions. They will consider one other possibility, and that is for the United States to lift online gambling restrictions that are in place now and to regulate and license online gambling operators. A deal of this type would not only please American online gamblers but it would also be cost effective for the United States.

Legislators have had discussions of regulating and licensing online gambling with one of the leaders of this proposal known as H.R. 2046, the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act of 2007 is democrat Rep. Barney Frank.
