Tiltware Responds to Phil Ivey Lawsuit

Less than a day after Phil Ivey told the world he was sitting out the World Series of Poker and would be suing Tiltware – the software arm of Full Tilt Poker – Tiltware struck back with a scathing assessment of Ivey’s lawsuit.

Full Tilt Poker’s PR department released the statement, which accused Ivey of sabotaging efforts by the poker site to help repay American players who had account balances on Full Tilt Poker when the site was targeted by the U.S. Department of Justice back in April.

On the same day, Ivey filed his lawsuit against Tiltware in a Nevada Clark County District Court. In the lawsuit, Ivey claims having no personal knowledge of the company’s violations of US laws. It’s worth noting that Ivey and other professional players associated with FTP and other major sites were not part of the Black Friday indictments.

The Tiltware release read as follows:

“Contrary to his sanctimonious public statements, Phil Ivey’s meritless lawsuit is about helping just one player – himself. In an effort to further enrich himself at the expense of others, Mr. Ivey appears to have timed his lawsuit to thwart pending deals with several parties that would put money back in players’ pockets. In fact, Mr. Ivey has been invited -- and has declined -- to take actions that could assist the company in these efforts, including paying back a large sum of money he owes the site. Tiltware doubts Mr. Ivey’s frivolous and self-serving lawsuit will ever get to court. But if it does, the company looks forward to presenting facts demonstrating that Mr. Ivey is putting his own narrow financial interests ahead of the players he professes to help.”

In addition to his lawsuit, Ivey has said he will not be playing in the World Series of Poker, in deference to the many players who will not be able to participate due to their bankrolls being tied up in Full Tilt Poker accounts.
