The Poker Players' Alliance, through a recent independent survey that was polled, drew attention at a House Judiciary Committee hearing on online gambling. The survey showing unhappy Americans towards the United States government and their stand of anti-online gambling.

The poll was conducted by RT Strategies National Omnibus Poll, and shows that Americans, by a two to one margin (51 percent - 21 percent), oppose governmental attempts in banning Internet poker. It also showed their strong support in the federal regulation of Internet poker as a means of controlling underage gambling and in helping problem gamblers.

John Conyers, chair of the House Judiciary Committee, who moderated the hearings, being in the past, a proponent of a full Congressional study of online gambling phenomenon. Diverse experts were to also be addressing the committee, such as the PPA, that were to start mid-morning in Washington.

"Chairman Conyers hearing is an important step toward educating Congress about the folly of an Internet gaming prohibition," said PPA Chairman, former Senator Alfonse D'Amato. "[Such a ban] will not work, and it is tremendously bad public policy. Only through proper regulation can we provide the proper safeguards for consumers and generate billions in additional, and much needed, tax revenue for this country."
