David Cain Attempts to Break Poker Playing Record
The record for the most consecutive hours of poker played is held by freelance writer Larry Olmsted of the United States. That record stands at 72 hours of consecutive play. David Cain, a poker player, is now in the process of trying to break that record.
Olmsted set the record after playing 72 hours at Foxwoods Casino. Olmsted began playing 50 cent ante Seven-Card Stud and built his stack to almost $1,000. He then went on from there and set the record. Olmsted also holds another world record; he traveled the greatest distance between two rounds of golf on the same day.
Cain thinks that he will be able to smash Olmstead’s record. Cain is in the process of playing deep-stack, heads up poker and plans to continue for one hundred hours. If he succeeds he will have broken the record and played straight for more than four days. The attempt began on Sunday September 14th and if he succeeds it will be over by midnight tomorrow.
On his website, Cain stated: “Well I finally got around to it - I am going to attempt a world record. I have mentioned it in the past to a few people and been met with mixed reactions ranging from support to disbelief and mocking, however despite that, I am still going to do it. It is something I have intended to do since a friend of mine James ‘Royal Flush’ Dempsey tried to do it several years ago. It is also something I am deadly serious about, so I will be looking for as much support as possible from everyone- especially as I will be hopefully also raising money for 2 hardworking local charities: St Barnabas and Louth and District Hospice.”
It will be interesting to see if Cain can break Olmstead’s record and if so who will be the next to take the poker challenge.
