According to several reports, police have determined that the recent home invasion and robbery of 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion Jonathan Duhamel was orchestrated by Bianca Rojas-Latraverse. Rojas-Latraverse was a former girlfriend of Duhamel's.
According to published reports, Rojas was not immediately suspected in the wake of the attack. However, suspicion began to fall on her when a friend came forward with information about a text sent to her by Rojas the day before the robbery. In that text, Rojas wrote: "I'm scared. Tomorrow I have something big that could cost me my life."
After further investigation, Rojas was found to have planned the attack on Duhamel's Boucherville home. During the attack, $40,000 Canadian was stolen, along with €74,000. In addition, the two men who took part in the attack stole Duhamel's WSOP bracelet, as well as a Rolex given to him by PokerStars to commemorate his achievement.
Three men have also been arrested in connection with the robbery and assault. John Steven Clark-Lemay, Anthony Bourque, and Andre-Robert Perron were charged along with Rojas, with the four facing various charges including armed robbery, assault, forced confinement, breaking and entering, and conspiracy.
Of the stolen goods, only Duhamel's watch has been recovered. Amazingly, Perron was wearing the watch at the time he was arrested. It is unclear whether any of the stolen cash has been recovered.
According to some reports, Rojas-Latraverse was known to be a compulsive liar. Stories have surfaced alleging that she falsely claimed to be a University of Montreal medical student, and that she claimed to be pregnant after she broke up with Duhamel.
Duhamel, 24, made waves in 2010 by becoming the first Canadian ever to win the World Series of Poker Main Event. Duhamel won over $8.9 million along with the iconic WSOP bracelet. In the time since his victory, Duhamel has continued to be successful in tournament play, winning over $550,000 in 2011 before starting 2012 with a 4th place finish at the $100,000 buy-in Super High Roller tournament at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure last week.
