Gus Hansen to Face Theo Jorgensen in Boxing Match
Gus Hansen has been training hard to get ready for his upcoming boxing match against fellow poker pro Theo Jorgensen. The match was set up to bring an end to settle an old feud. The winner will take home 200,000 DKK and viewers can tune in on February 21st on Gus TV.
The fight between Gus and Theo started in 2008 when Theo wanted to even the score with Gus. Theo could not beat Gus any longer on the squash court and Theo was tired of seeing Gus win by shadow boxing. So Theo suggests that he and Gus have a boxing match claiming: "Gus was such a pathetic boxer," says Jorgensen, "that I was pretty sure I could beat him."
Gus has been working hard, training with Johnny De Lima, a professional trainer and Olympic boxing medalist. Gus commented: "Beating up Theo in boxing will be much more enjoyable than winning over him in poker. The sweet taste of victory cannot even be made up in terms of money".
Gus believes that he will be able to defeat Theo easily so he has placed a handicap on the match. If Gus wins he will only take $25,000 off of Theo. The match is set to take place in Copenhagen at one of Denmark’s largest indoor arenas.
When the fight begins it will signal the launch of Gus TV, the online poker channel created by Gus himself. The channel will feature the fight and then continue to show him playing poker live around the world as well as tips and hints from the poker pro.
