Viktor “Isildur1” Blom has a new challenger to face. His next SuperStar Showdown series challenger has been named, and it’s none other than Daniel “Jungleman12” Cates, reportedly the biggest cash game winner in online poker during 2010.
Blom’s challenge series has pitted the high stakes star against a series of challengers who have come forward since he signed on with PokerStars. At the time the series began, Blom was still playing anonymously under the Isildur1 screenname. Thus far, Blom has recorded a loss against Isaac Haxton, as well as a victory over Tony G.
However, “Jungleman” might be the toughest opponent for Blom yet. Cates is currently involved in an even higher stakes challenge with Tom “durrrr” Dwan (the aptly named Durrrr Challenge), where he currently holds an overwhelming lead of $819,000.
The rules for the SuperStar Showdown are fairly simple. The players will play four tables at once; in this case, the stakes and game will be the same at each of the four tables, where Cates and Blom will be playing $50/$100 heads up no limit hold’em. In total, the two players will play 2,500 hands against each other in a single session. Each player is expected to bring 1,500 big blinds (in this case, $150,000) to the game. There is no side bet on the session; the winner will simply take home whatever cash they’ve won during the match.
This match marks the third in the SuperStar Showdown series. The match will take place on Sunday, January 30 at 5:30 pm Eastern US time in the PokerStars online poker room. Cates will be playing under his lesser known PokerStars screenname of “w00ki3z.”
