PokerStars has added yet another big name to their Team Pokerstars, further growing their stable of the world’s best poker players. The newest edition is Vanessa Selbst, one of the finest female poker players in the world.
Selbst may not be one of the most famous names in the world of poker, but she’s well known in professional circles. Selbst already has many big wins to her name, none more important than the World Series of Poker bracelet she won in 2008 by taking first place in a $1,500 PL Omaha tournament. That win was worth $227,933, and made her one of the few female players to win an open World Series of Poker event.
Selbst, who will turn 26 next week, graduated from Yale University and is currently a student at Yale Law School. After she graduates, she intends to purse a career in civil rights law. She also serves as an executive producer and coach at Deuces Cracked, an online poker training site.
Beyond her WSOP bracelet, Selbst has a number of other poker accomplishments. She has seven total cashes at the World Series of Poker, including four other top-ten finishes, including finishing 3rd in the World Championship Heads-Up No Limit Hold’em event two years in a row – in 2007, when the buy-in was $5,000, and in 2008, when it became a $10,000 event. More recently, Selbst won the $4,700 North American Poker Tour event at the Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, taking home a prize of $750,000. In total, Selbst has collected nearly $1.7 million in tournament earnings.
Team Pokerstars comprises a stable of players who help promote the PokerStars.com and PokerStars.net online poker rooms. There are several groups within Team Pokerstars, including Team Pokerstars: Pro, which consists of professional players; Team Pokerstars: Sportstars, which includes famous athletes from different sports around the world, and Friends of Pokerstars, a group of celebrities who play under the PokerStars banner at live and online events.
