Viktor Blom Could Face $149 Million Tax Bill

Isildur1 could be facing a hefty price for revealing his identity. A report out of Sweden says that Viktor Blom, the 20-year-old poker pro behind the formerly anonymous high stakes online player, could be facing a tax bill of as much as $149 million if Swedish authorities choose to crack down on online poker players.

The Swedish Tax Agency has recently announced that they wish to investigate many online poker companies who do business in the country. There is a belief that many companies which claim to be based overseas actually perform much of their operations in Sweden.

The large figure probably comes from the large session wins that Blom has racked up over the last two years, as he has routinely won (and lost) millions of dollars in a single day. The $149 million figure was calculated by Dagens Nyheter, a Swedish financial newspaper.

While the Swedish Tax Agency was quick to admit that they are investigating many companies, including online gambling firms, they did not make it clear whether Blom would be a potential target.

"Internet poker is something we're looking into and I know this poker player,” said tax agency spokesperson Erik Boman, “but I can't comment on whether we've opened a case."

Viktor Blom spent well over a year as the most famous online poker player in the world – though few people knew that he was the man behind the mysterious Isildur1. However, much of the speculation on Isildur1’s identity was focused around Blom for some time, and when he signed a contract to represent PokerStars, revealing his identity became part of the deal, ending the mystery once and for all.
