The roller-coaster adventures of Viktor Blom – the Swedish poker professional who is best known by his online screen name, Isildur1 – continued this week, as Blom won well over $1 million over a three day stretch, only to lose about half of his winnings back on Tuesday.
Blom had not been seen on PokerStars for about three months before his sudden reappearance during the past week. According to a report from Card Player Magazine, Blom won about $1.6 million over the weekend into Monday. For the most part, his wins came in a series of heads-up battles against players like Brian Townsend and Phil Galfond at the $100/$200 pot-limit Omaha tables. He was also spotted playing in six-handed PLO games at the same stakes.
According to the Card Player report, there is some speculation that Blom may have been playing with his entire account balance on the tables.
Blom has had a volatile career as a poker player. For well over a year, Blom was only known as the mysterious Isildur1, an anonymous high stakes player who could usually be found playing at the nosebleed stakes at Full Tilt Poker. He was known for winning – and losing – millions of dollars in a single day, as well as having multimillion dollar swings against some of the world’s top players, like Tom Dwan and Patrik Antonius.
In December 2010, Isildur1 signed a contract to become a Team PokerStars Pro, where he would play challenge matches against other high stakes players. At the time, it was already widely suspected that Blom was the man behind Isildur1. However, these suspicions were not confirmed until January, when PokerStars officially introduced Blom as Isildur1 at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.
