Are There Legal USA Poker Sites?
After the events of last Friday, the concept of a “legal USA poker site” may seem murky at best. However, whether we can be sure they’re operating entirely legally or not, there are certainly plenty of online poker sites that have continued to accept USA players in the aftermath of the US government’s online poker indictments.

While the majority of USA players decided to play their online poker at PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and the Cereus Network (Absolute Poker and UB.com), there were dozens of other rooms already set up and accepting poker players from the United States. Given the sudden disappearance of the three largest USA-friendly poker rooms, these rooms are now experiencing massive increases in traffic, meaning more frequent games and more higher-limit tables are running in these rooms than ever before.
Perhaps the highest profile site still in operation in the United States is Bodog Poker. Bodog is well known for the variety of gambling options they offer, including sports betting and casino games. With a recognizable brand and a strong reputation due to their long history, Bodog may be the best remaining option for American players.
However, there are other options available, too. The largest remaining rooms belong to the Merge Gaming Network. This network hosts popular poker rooms like Carbon Poker and Lock Poker, making them another solid choice for USA poker players. Other networks, such as the Cake Network and Everleaf Network, have also seen dramatic traffic increases. Several smaller rooms also exist that continue to accept American players on their sites.
It’s fair to wonder just how legal any of these sites can be – at least in the eyes of the US Department of Justice – after the indictments handed down against the founders of the three largest sites last Friday. Given that the charges included operating illegal gambling sites, it would seem as though that could apply to any of the poker rooms still in operation.
However, it’s certainly possible that smaller sites may fly under the radar – particularly those that haven’t been heavy advertisers in the United States. In addition, it seems that there is very little risk to American players; the US government has already begun making arrangements with PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker to allow USA poker players to retrieve their account balances, and it’s likely that this would be done for any site that faced similar charges in the future.
