Where Can Americans Play Poker Online?

With the recent shutdown of several major online poker sites and the indictment of 11 poker room and payment processor executives by the US government, many players are unsure about what options remain for online poker in the United States. While losing PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, and Absolute Poker/UB.com did hurt the USA poker market, there are still many sites open to American players.

Perhaps the best place for American poker players to turn to is the Merge Network. Merge has a number of very stable and popular poker rooms, and features innovative software that you might even prefer to the clients you’re used to at larger sites like PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker.

At Merge, a few rooms are worthy of note. For instance, SportsBook Poker is a great site that combines a world class sportsbook with a well-appointed poker room, making it an excellent choice for those who like many forms of gambling. Other top Merge rooms include PlayersOnly Poker, Lock Poker and SuperBook Poker.

One of the more notable rooms still available to USA players is Bodog Poker. Years ago, Bodog was one of the biggest names in online poker, but they fell far behind their bigger competitors as the industry grew in the late 2000’s. Bodog seems to be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the closures, having increased traffic by 25% since Friday.

Another popular option is the Cake Poker Network, which features (not surprisingly) Cake Poker and many other popular poker rooms. However, it’s worth noting that at least one room on the Cake Poker Network has already closed its doors to USA poker players. That room is Victory Poker, which is headed by CEO Dan Fleyshman, who reportedly lives inside the United States and has said he has no desire “to mess with the U.S. government.”

Other, smaller options abound as well, such as the Everleaf Network.

While the future of the industry is unclear, the events of Black Friday have not destroyed online poker in the United States, and American poker players who want to play online still have plenty of options to choose from – and likely will for the foreseeable future.
