Johnny Chan States New Movie Could Outdo Rounders

Anyone who knows anything about poker knows that the movie “Rounders” starring Edward Norton and Matt Damon played a pivotal role in bringing the game of poker especially the game of Texas Hold’em to the forefront. The movie is what made the game of poker as popular as it is today. Professional poker pro Johnny Chan wants to be in a new movie about poker called “Poker King” and he has stated the movie could be as big as “Rounders” was.

Poker King is a new Chinese language movie and it will be filmed during the Asian Poker Tour Macau Festival. Chan is hoping to be in the film and he stated: “Poker King has the potential to be much, much bigger than Rounders ever was. Say there are over one billion Chinese speaking people in the world and compare this to the US and its 300 million people and you can see that this could be huge. Rounders gave poker a new lease of life in the western world and this could kick start a new poker boom in Asia.

Chan also commented that he had a ‘fantastic’ time filming Rounders back in the 90s and he would love to be in this movie. The movie is set to star big names in Chinese cinema including Sean Lau Ching-Wan, Stephy Tang, Cherrie In, Josie Ho and Louis Koo.
