Poker After Dark to Air Pot Limit Omaha

While Texas Hold’em is certainly the dominant form of poker in the world today, it’s no secret that poker pros play plenty of other poker games as well. But you wouldn’t get that impression from watching televised poker, where hold’em is shown almost exclusively. But the popular late-night poker television show Poker After Dark is aiming to change that by filming a Pot Limit Omaha edition of the program.
The production of the episode came to light when professional poker player Brian Hastings (Stinger885) announced his plans to participate in the event on his blog at CardRunners.com.
“The reason I am flying to Vegas is that I am going to be on Poker After Dark,” Hastings wrote last week. “This will be my first televised poker appearance and I am very excited. Lana (CR marketing director) worked very hard to get me on the show and called me Friday afternoon to let me know about it.”
According to Hastings’ blog post, the taping for the episode took place last week, and featured a lineup that included some of the most notorious names in high-stakes cash game poker. Players who participated reported included Phil Ivey, Tom “durrrr” Dwan, and Phil Galfond, among others. He added that the game will feature blinds of $300/$600, possibly along with an ante, with a minimum buy-in of $100,000.
Poker After Dark first began airing in 2007, and has now been on the air for six seasons. The show has featured a mixture of single-table tournaments and high-stakes cash games, each featuring many of the world’s most popular poker players. The show is sponsored heavily by Full Tilt Poker; players are occasionally able to win a seat on the show by competing in promotional tournaments on the site. Poker After Dark derives its name from its late start time; in the United States, first run episodes typically air at 2:05 a.m. Eastern time.
