California State Poker Championship Results

Eric Crisp was the last man standing when he beat out the 362 poker players in the main event in California on Sunday night. Of those 362 players only 27 took home some of the nearly $878,000 prize pool. There were 17 preliminary tournaments that led up to the main event. All in all the preliminaries brought a prize pool over $2.3 million dollars from over 5000 players.

Crisp is a relatively unknown player but soon showed he could play with the best. He finished 11th place in the sixth event which was $300 buy-in with rebuys No Limit Texas Holdem. This was his first major cash in during tournament play. Crisp went on to play strong and win the main event prize of $324,815. He was followed closely by well known player Can Kim Hua who finished 2nd and took home a prize of $166,790.

Also making his first cash in was former baseball player Jose Canseco. He finished in 16th place during the 6th event. This was one of the more notable events of the evening. Back in 2004 Ben Afleck won the title and over $350,000 dollars in prize money. Many top named poker players have been a champion of this tournament. Kathy Liebert, Chip Jett, David "The Dragon", Chris Ferguson, Men "The Master" Nguyen, and Phil Laak to name a few. The events took place in the Commerce Casino which has the world’s largest poker room. The tournaments featured were No Limit and Limit Hold'em tournaments.
