Tournament based on Poker Mockumentary to be hosted by the Golden Nugget
This March a poker mockumentary called The Grand will be released in select theaters. A mockumentary of course is similar to a documentary except that it is making fun of the subject. The subject of this movie is a poker tournament and of course it's a comedy. The actors did not have a script; instead they improvised by playing a certain character and reacting how they believed the character would act.
Several Hollywood stars are in the film such as Shannon Elizabeth and Woody Harrelson and a few poker pros themselves made it in the film like poker great Doyle Brunson. The Golden Nugget was the set of the film and in July it will be the set of a tournament series titled The Grand Poker Series which is based on the movie.
The series will begin on June 6th and continue until July 6th. The games featured in the series will be: No-Limit Hold'em, Poker Queen Ladies Event, Pot-Limit Omaha Eight or Better, H.O.R.S.E., Pot-Limit Omaha, Senior Event and Limit Omaha Eight or Better.
Also taking place will be a celebrity tournament called Cards, Celebrities and a Cause, which will be hosted by Montel Williams. The proceeds will benefit Multiple Sclerosis research. Montel himself is afflicted with the disease but has been a champion in the fight for a cure and proves everyday how a person can learn to live with the disease.
