$1-Million GTD Poker Championship Kicks Off Saturday
The highly anticipated Aussie Millions Poker Championship is set to kick off this Saturday, January 5th, at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia. A host of poker tournaments will take place from January 5th through the 20th, including the Main Event, scheduled to begin January 14th, culminating into the final table.
The 16-day poker event presents a $5,000,000 guaranteed prize pool over the duration of the championship, with $1,000,000 guaranteed to the first place winner. Experts are expecting at least 1,000 participants, including some very big names in the professional poker world. The Aussie Millions has become the biggest poker championship outside of North America.
Sponsored by Full Tilt Poker, members have been hitting the tables at the online poker room in satellite competitions awarding entry to the Aussie Millions and prize packages to the Main Event. Fox Sports Net will provide coverage of the poker championship, to be aired at a later date.
Direct buy-in to the Aussie Millions Main Event is $10,500 AUD. The 2007 Aussie Millions Poker Championship, held last January, saw skilled poker pro Gus Hansen take first place after defeating Jimmy Fricke with pocket Aces in the final hand.
