250,000+ Euros Raised at Ante Up For Africa

PokerStars Ante Up For Africa tournament in Europe was a great success and the event was able to raise over 250,000Euros for the Darfur Region of Africa. Forty players competed in the tournament, paying the 4,000 Euro buy-in. the prize pool was increased even more when PokerStars added an additional 100,000 Euros to the mix. Isabelle Mercier was the poker pro to outlast the pack and take the first place win.

When final table play began Daniel Negreanu held a significant chip lead at 151,000. The closest person to Negreanu was Teddy Sheringham who had 44,900. After Sebastian Chabal, John Duthie and Patrick Chene were knocked out of the competition Dario Minieri and Sheringham had built up their chip stacks. Luca Pagano went out next and was followed by Negreanu who by that time had lost his large lead.

Tony G and Minieri went out next which left Sheringham and Mercier to battle in heads up play. Sheringham held a three to one chip lead over Mercier but it would not be long before Mercier would gain the lead. The final hand would see Mercier knock out Sheringham with her A-2 against his Ten-four and take the win.
