2nd Annual Ante Up for Africa Tourney
Yesterday a large number of celebrities were in Las Vegas to play in a charity poker tournament where all of the proceeds would go to various charities that are working in Dafur. Among those sitting at the poker tables were Don Cheadle, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Adam Sandler, Ray Romano, George Lopez and Jason Alexander.
According to an Associated Press report players are donating their prize money from the second annual "Ante Up for Africa" event to charities that are working in the Dafur region of Sudan. Don Cheadle and professional poker player, Annie Duke started the event last year to help raise money and bring attention to the troubles in the region.
The region of Dufar has had more then 300,000 people die and another 2.5 million people have been displaced since ethnic warfare began in 2003. This tournament helped to benefit two charities. ENOUGH is a project that was confounded in 2007 by the International Crisis Group and the Center for American Progress. The other charity is Not On Our Watch, a group co-founded by Cheadle, Damon, George Clooney and Brad Pitt.
