Just a short time ago the APAT Scottish Amateur Poker Championships took place at the Gala Maybury Casino in Edinburgh. The event was sold out as so many competitors came to try their hand at earning the top prize. But it was Derek Murdie from Hawick who managed to outlast the other 129 players to take the first place prize.

The tournament had a low buy-in so there was no doubt it would sell out. The tournament was sponsored by Blue Square and the winner of the event would earn a seat to the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Champion of Champions event.

Murdie defeated David Blane in heads up play after two days of competition to earn the title win. He earned the seat to the GUKPT event as well as the 3,000 first place prize. It will be interesting to see how Murdie does in the GUKPT event.

The APAT will now look forward to the upcoming World Amateur Poker Championship Festival at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham. This event will take place at the end of August and have 450 players. This festival will include the Championship event as well as the HORSE and Omaha championships.
