Asia Poker Tour Expected Impact

There could possibly be differences of opinion as to the origin of poker, but there's no doubting the card game has arrived as a vast world-sporting event now and is here to stay. In fact, the game believed to have begun in ancient China around 900 A.D. has been crowned as the 21st century's King of Games, evolving from a parlor game into a global phenomenon and a multibillion-dollar industry that embraces people of every race, age and social status.


In the Philippines as well as in the majority Asian countries, poker's following is growing bigger and bigger every year. The game's popularity in the area is projected to take an abrupt leap as the biggest poker tournament in the history of Asia, the Asia Pacific Poker Tour, become known within Manila as host of the Pagcor-sanctioned opening event this month.

 

The steady rise in the general popularity of poker and, in particular, tournament poker was distinguished in the 1980's and 1990's. At present, spectators and players all over the world stream to apparently infinite poker resources and are able to access tournament games with satellite television transmission from practically any point on the globe. As a consequence, more and more people are now playing poker at home, in casinos and online, hooked on the game now considered by many as a decisive mind-sport.
