Chino Rheem Wins Five Diamond World Poker Classic Championship
The World Poker Tour Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic Championship ended this past weekend with the six remaining players competing for the top title. The six players that were left entered the Bellagio on Friday to finish the competition where the top player took home $1.5 million.
Play would last for a good while as each player had a good amount of chips. The first to go would be Hoyt Corkins. Hoyt was running short on chips and went all in with A-Q after a flop of K-Q-6. Hoyt was called by Justin Young who held A-K. Young got another King on the turn and Hoyt drew dead and was out in 6th place.
It would be a good while before anyone else would be eliminated. Young, Steve Sung and Amnon Filippi would enter into an all-in three way where Young would be victorious. Sung held pocket Ks, Filippi had pocket 9s and Young held pocket Aces. The board fell 7-4-4-3-J which gave Young the higher pair and the win of the hand.
After Evan McNiff was knocked out by Chino Rheem, Young and Rheem would commence heads up play. Young held an almost 2-1 chip lead over Rheem but Rheem would catch up after about five hours of play. The final hand took place when Young moved all in with Q-5 and was called by Rheem with pocket Kings. The board read Q-8-3 with a nine on the turn and a two on the river gave Rheem the win and the $1.5 million first place prize.
