EPT Moscow Moved Due to New Laws in Russia
The game of poker was recently removed from the list of official Russian sports which was created back in 2007. It was on July 20th the game was removed from the list and this created problems for PokerStars which was set to host a European Poker Tour event in August. Because of the change in the country the EPT Moscow event has been moved.
The 2009 Russian Open was supposed to kick off the European Poker Tour Season VI but the changes have made the event move to the Ukraine. The event will now take place in Kiev, the capital of the Ukraine. All players who qualified through PokerStars for a Moscow seat will still be able to participate as well. The tournament will take place at the Kiev Sports Palace.
The event was supposed to begin on August 17th but now will be moved back one day to the 18th. PokerStars commented in a release: "Euro Poker Tour Ltd. sincerely apologizes to all players who were intending to attend the Moscow event, but unfortunately these circumstances were beyond our control. Players are encouraged to consider attending the Ukrainian event instead, and to participate in the opening of the EPT's sixth season."
