ElkY Wins First Ever PCA $25,000 High Roller Event

Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier won the first ever $25,000 high roller event at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure after outlasting the forty seven man field. Bertrand was the winner of the PCA 2008 Main Event and proved yet again that he is a player to be reckoned with.

Several top poker pros competed in the high roller event including Daniel Negreanu, Gus Hanson, Greg Raymer, Chris Ferguson and Joe Hachem. Yet none of them made it to the final table. Players who made the final table are as follows: Humberto Brenes, Scott Seiver, Nick Schulman, Liya Gerasimova, Daniel Alaei, Bertrand Grospellier, Will Molson and Eli Elezra.

After final table play began Bertrand would find himself in the chip lead. He would then knock out the first player Nick Schulman after only an hour’s play. Bertrand held pocket tens against Schulman’s A-J and Schulman saw nothing on the board and was the first player out in eighth.

Daniel Alaei would go out next after going head to head with Liya Gersimova. Alaei held pocket kings but Liya held A-J and got an Ace on the board knocking Alaei out in seventh place.

The next few players to be eliminated were: Eli Elerza, Humberto Brenes, Liya Gerasimova and Scott Seiver in that order. That would leave Will Molson and Bertrand to play heads up for the almost $450,000 first place prize.

When heads up play began Bertrand was up 2 million chips to Molson’s 331,000 chips so the match would end quickly. On the final hand Molson went all in with K-10 and was called by Bertrand who had A-J. The board fell Q-6-2-A-6 and Molson was out in second place leaving Bertrand with the win.
