Foxwoods Charity Poker Champion - Franklin Becker
Franklin Becker is an executive chef at Brasserie in New York City and walked away as the winner of the event held in Mashantucket, Connecticut. His cash of 15,000 USD will be donated to his selected charity, Autism Speaks, a national organization dedicated to funding biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments and cure for autism.
"I knew I was in good shape when I was dealt that straight flush," said Chef Becker. "It was great to be a part of this year's Foxwoods Food And Wine Festival and even better to be able to participate in this poker tournament for charity. I will have to come back and defend my title as the reigning champion next year."
Ming Tsai, chef and co-owner of Blue Ginger in Wellesley, Massachusetts, placed second and cashed for 10,000 USD for the Cam Neely Foundation in Boston. Owner of New York City's Lotus club, David Rabin, finished third and donated his 5,000 USD cash prize to New York Cares and The Innocence Project charities.
Organizers announced next year's event will be held at the new MGM Grand at Foxwoods, opening early 2008 adjacent to the Foxwoods Resort Casino.
