Harmon Charity Event Raises $130,000
Last week over one hundred and twenty players competed in a special charity poker tournament created by poker pro Jennifer Harmon. The event was created to raise money for the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The tournament was a great success and raised $130,000 for the charity.
Several well known poker players as well as those who love animals participated in the event. Such poker pros as Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey and Phil Hellmuth were on hand to compete in the tournament.
Though the tournament raised over $100,000 is was a good bit less than what was raised at last year’s event. In 2008 one hundred more players competed in the event and the donation of funds was at $325,000.
Many believe that the WPT championship as well as the economy was a few reasons the tournament did not see as big of a turnout. Over all, the entire tournament did well and raised money for a good cause. Not only did the tournament take place but there were auctions as well to raise money. Negreanu who participated in the tournament also made a big purchase at the auction. He paid $28,000 for a date with fellow poker player Lacey Jones.
