The World Poker Tour’s latest event has now broken the record for the largest WPT event in history, beating out the previous record set by the same event last year. The WPT Borgata Poker Open saw 1,313 entries, including 1,170 unique players – both well ahead of the 1,042 players who participated in the 2010 edition of the tournament.
With the two Day 1 flights finished, the remaining 786 players will merge for Tuesday’s Day 2 action. On Day 1B, it was Jeff Madsen who stormed out to the chip lead, pulling in a total of 216,925 chips. That total was good for 2nd overall heading into Day 2, behind only Day 1A leader Abe Korotki, who has 260,100 in chips. As an added benefit for their Day 1 success, both Madsen and Korotki won $5,000 prizes for leading their respective fields after the first day of play.
While a total prize pool has not yet been announced, the number of entries and the $3,300 buy-in would suggest a prize pool of over $4 million – well over the figure hit by last year’s Borgata Poker Open. The eventual winner of the tournament will be determined on Friday, September 23.
The following players have amassed the top ten chip stacks heading into Day 2, as reported by Poker News Daily:
1. Abe Korotki – 260,100
2. Jeff Madsen – 216,925
3. Vanessa Selbst – 198,675
4. Edgar Lemus-Argueta – 191,925
5. Darren Elias – 191,200
6. Will Failla – 189,500
7. Eric Salinas – 184,225
8. Adam White – 180,625
9. Jesse Cohen – 177,825
10. Jason Min – 174,000
Action continues on Tuesday, with the tournament playing down to the televised final table of six players by Thursday.
