Jude Ainsworth Wins Irish Poker Championship
The PartyPoker Irish Poker Championship has come to an end and the winner is none other than a local of the area, Jude Ainsworth. Jude managed to outlast 298 other players including many professionals. Mike Sexton, Marcel Luske and Robert Williamson III were among those playing for the championship.
Jude made it to heads up play against Michael McCool. Jude went all-in with 10-8 and McCool called with pocket 5s. The flop produced a straight draw for Jude and then he got a Q which sealed the deal and the crowd went wild.
Jude was very excited over his €180,000 first place prize and he was going to celebrate. "It doesn't get much better than this," he said. "To say that we are going to sink a few pints is an understatement! I couldn't ask for much more than this, I've had great support all the way through. I was planning taking a break after my PhD at GNUIG in Galway. This makes everything a lot easier!"
Jude is a Biochemistry Student working for his PHD. He is 28 years old and married with one child. He said his wife is currently in Hong Kong on a work related trip but she will definitely be excited. He said he wanted to take his family on a holiday and participate in more tournaments, possibly the WSOP in Vegas.
The event was recorded and will be televised on RTE, Ireland's national broadcaster. In February, the recording will be distributed internationally and everyone will be able to see Jude win. Several well known people will be seen commentating. Jesse May, Padraig Parkinson and Ciaran O'Leary all helped as being commentators.
