Markus Sippe Wins International Poker Open
Boyle Poker’s International Poker Open recently concluded in Dublin, Ireland and the event saw a record number of players competing. The event drew a field of 1,440 players from over eighteen countries besting the record for most players at a non-USA event.
The previous record for a non-USA event was 1,347 which was created at this year’s PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. The International Poker Open ran over three days at the Regency Airport Hotel in Dublin and the overall prize pool reached $350,000.
Several big name players competed in the event including: Padraig Parkinson, Andy Black, Neil Channing, Marty Smyth, Fintan Gavin, Simon Trumper and Surinder Sunar. The final table saw nine players competing. Those who made the final table were: Mark Sippe, Jay Renehan, Mark Troy, Cat O'Neill, Gary Cavazza, Colin Rutherford, Stephen Egan, Sean Venny and Martin Dunne.
It only took one hour for heads up play to begin between Markus Sippe and Jay Renehan. Sippe held a two million chip lead so it would only take ten minutes for him to claim the win. A recent press release told the final hand best. It read: "Renehan moved all in preflop with 5-4 and Sippe made the call with A-4. The flop brought a gutshot for Renehan, the turn gave him a double belly buster, but the river paired the board and Sippe became this year's International Poker Open champion, earning the healthy top prize of US$62,250. Renehan took home US$47,490 for his fantastic second-place finish."
