Many of the biggest names were eliminated at the Borgata Poker Open’s fourth day of play, but six strong players still remain for the final table of the World Poker Tour event.
Entering Day 4, there was still the potential for some great storylines as a few very notable players looked to be in contention to reach the final table. However, most of these players fell by the wayside in their quest to be one of the last six survivors.
The first to fall was 2009 champion Olivier Busquet. The online pro who won last year’s Borgata Poker Open was looking to go for back-to-back titles, but was eliminated in 25th place, ending his incredible run.
Next up was Mike Sexton, who looked like he might have to take a break from commentating on the World Poker Tour to instead be playing at a televised final table. Unfortunately, Sexton played most of the fourth day on a short stack. Although Sexton did achieve his first WPT cash, he could not reach the final table, bowing out in 20th place.
One of the players who had been in and around the lead for much of the tournament was John D’Agostino, who had twice before made televised final tables at the Borgata. But D’Agostino couldn’t fight his way into the final six – he was eliminated in 14th place.
But there were two more big names remaining in the tournament, and both were still in contention with just seven players left. However, only six players make a World Poker Tour final table, and someone had to be left out. In this case, it was Jeffrey Papola who lost on the final table bubble.
That left Dwyte Pilgrim as the biggest name remaining at the final table. Pilgram – who finds himself 4th in chips with 4.8 million – is best known for his win at the WSOP Circuit event at Harrah’s Rincon in 2009, along with a slew of smaller (but significant) cashes in events over the last two years. In fact, despite lacking a signature cash in 2010, he has still been quite successful, ranking 157th on the 2010 money list according to the Hendon Mob Database.
The leader, with 7.3 million in chips, is Ofir Mor. Interestingly, Mor’s only cash listed in the Hendon Mob Database came last year at this same event, when he finished 27th in the Borgata Poker Open. Other players at the final table include Kia Mohajeri, Benjamin Klier, Brandon Novena and Daniel Makowsky.
