Poker Celebrity Bowl Set for February 1st

Sports fans will have a busy weekend starting February 1st. Not only will the NFL Super Bowl XLII be taking place but the Poker Celebrity Bowl will be kicking off as well. The Poker Celebrity Bowl will begin on February 1st and will hosted by Royce Clayton, Major League Baseball shortstop. The tournament will be a No-Limit Hold'em event with a buy-in of $1,000 and $200 re-buys.

The event is for charity and 50% of the prize pool will go to the Royce Clayton Family Foundation. They work with help homeless children, promote education, develop athletic opportunities for minority youth, provide aid for battered women and raise awareness for sickle cell anemia.

Seating at the event is limited to 240 players and the top prize of the event is a $10,000 seat at the 2008 World Series of Poker. The top ten players will also cash out. Many other baseball players will be in attendance as well as well-known poker players.

Geof Jenkins, Bob Lanier, Jimmy Rollins and Luis Gonzales will be among the MLB players participating. Jamie Gold, 2007 WSOP Main Event winner, as well as Robert Williamson III, Annie Duke and Chris Ferguson are expected to attend. Montel Williams and William Garson, from Sex in the City, will also be playing in the event. Montel is also going to be hosting his own charity poker tournament later this year.
