Poker Pro Wins First Major Tournament
Roberto Romanello won the PartyPoker European Open V this past weekend and it was a long time coming. Romanello is a poker pro who has yet to take a large tournament victory win until now. Romanello won $200,000 for his first place finish.
Romanello was up against Marc Goodwin in heads up play to take the win. The final table took place on Friday the 13th, which ended up being quite a lucky day for Romanello. Neil Channing and Craig Burgess made the final table as well. Burgess was the runner up at the last European Open.
Poker fans will be able to view the footage of the competition on Five later this year. Other poker pros who competed were Annette Obrestad, Victoria Coren and Roland de Wolfe. The cap on the event was seventy two players and the buy-in sat at $7,000.
When heads up play began there was less than a 100,000 difference in chips, with Goodwin in the lead. On the final hand Goodwin held K-9 and Romanello went all in with his A-10. Goodwin would call and Romanello got his Ace on the flop and the win.
