PokerStars.com Draws Crowd of 20,000 Entrants
The widely popular online poker room, PokerStars.com, drew a record number of entrants this past weekend with over 20,000 poker players signing up for Sunday's biggest events, including the Sunday Warm-Up, the Sunday Hundred Grand, the Sunday Million and the High-Stakes Showdown.
The massive number of attendants, unheard of in this day and age of US Poker restrictions, is partly due to the fact that Poker Stars continues to accept US players, despite the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) passed by the US government in October of 2006. While the poker room's rate of US player activity has dropped in general, the big prize pool tournaments continue to attract an abundance of American players.
The largest of PokerStars.com Sunday tournaments - The Sunday Million - saw a four-way split that still left $30,000 to be added to the top prize winners. First place honors, along with $152,537.87 in cash winnings, went to 'Zutman' of Canada. Finnish poker player, 'Pehtoori' took second place, pocketing $134,484. The third and fourth place winners each took home more than $100,000 for their skilled efforts.
