Pokerstars World Cup of Poker

Sep 8, 2007

The Pokerstars World Cup of Poker has crowned a new champion and it is Team USA. Like in most major poker tournaments it was full of great hand drama, remarkable skill and a lot of luck.

The five poker players for team USA John Kenlan, Tyler Netter, Randy Principe, Shaun Deeb and their professional poker captain Greg Raymer played great poker together. There were seven other teams that made it through to play but the finals consisted of the best four teams left, Canada, Iceland, Romania and the USA.

The final event was a sit and go format, short handed and with forced player substitutions. It was team Canada who were first eliminated followed by team Iceland. This left the teams of the USA and Romania to battle for the title.

The final hand came up between Shaun Deeb of team USA and Cristian Tardea of team Romania. It was a classic case of aggression meets a powerful hand. Tardea had been the aggressor and when Deeb raised heads up with AQ, Tardia tries a re-raise bluff all in with J8. Deeb called and when no help came for Tardia the match was over and team USA held the World Cup of Poker title.
