Rijkenberg Wins EPT San Remo Event
The European Poker Tour San Remo stop has concluded and it was twenty year old Constant Rijkenberg who would outlast the field and take the first place win. It seemed as though Dragon Galic would take the tournament as he had remained the chip leader from day one but it was not to be.
1,170 players competed in the tournament to try their hand at winning the €1.5 million top prize and at the beginning of final table play eight players remained. The first player to be eliminated from final table play was Danilo D’Ettoris and he would be followed soon by Alexander Fitzgerald.
Ovidiu Balaj would go out next in sixth when he went all in against William Reynolds. Reynolds knocked Balaj out after drawing a straight. The chip leader of the tournament, Dragon Galic, would go out in fifth even though he had held the chip lead for the entire tournament. Rijkenberg would take him out after drawing a straight.
The next few to go would be William Reynolds in fourth and Gustav Sundell. That left Rijkenberg and Kalle Niemi to compete in heads up play. It would not be long before Rijkenberg would claim victory. On the final hand Rijkenberg held pocket aces against Niemi’s A-10. The Aces held up so Rijkenberg was able to claim the win and the €1.5 million first place prize.
