Second Annual Par & Poker Celebrity Challenge

Baseball Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith will be returning to play in next year’s Par and Poker Celebrity Challenge, which will take place the week of the Super Bowl. The Par and Poker Celebrity Challenge brings out all types of celebrities who want to try their skills in the game of golf and the game of poker.
 
The event is set to take place on January 29th 2009 with Former NFL Super Bowl Champion Seth Joyner and NCAA Champion Andy Walker hosting. The Celebrity Challenge will consist of a No Limit Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament and an 18 hole golf tournament. This will be the second time the event has taken place.
 
During Super Bowl week, The Par and Poker Celebrity Challenge is the only event that is free to the public. At last year’s event, Ozzie Smith was one of more than thirty celebrities to play in the tournament. The event raised over $60,000 during the Super Bowl in Arizona last year and hopefully will raise more this year in Tampa, Florida.

The location of the Texas hold’em event has not yet been announced but is expected to be the largest celebrity poker tournament in the history of Tampa. The top three finishers in the tournament will win a seat to next year’s World Series of Poker and cash prizes.

The golf tournament will take place at the TPC Tampa Championship Golf Course with celebrities and athletes will be competing for trophies while earning money for charity. The charity that will be receiving the donations will be the Joyner-Walker Foundation. This foundation provides life-skill programs to assist high school and college students. Players can buy sponsorships at the Par and Poker website starting at $1,000.
