Unemployed Man Wins Seat to Heads Up Event
Blandine Gines is a man who has worked hard all his life. Emigrating from Manila in 1975, Gines has worked several hard jobs such as a grape picker and a construction worker. Now unemployed, Gines recently participated in an online poker satellite tournament. Gines was able to beat 590,000 other players to win a seat at the NBC National Heads Up Poker Championship in Las Vegas.
Gines will now be able to compete in the poker tournament against a field of sixty four players. The event has a $20,000 buy-in but Gines won his seat so he got to compete for free. The first place prize at the event was worth $500,000.
Gines commented that if he won the tournament he would buy a new house and a new car for his wife. His wife commented that she does not pay attention to what he does on the computer but she is glad he has this opportunity.
Gines was unable to win the tournament as that place went to Huck Seed. Gines was up against Barry Greenstein in his first match up and was beaten by the poker pro. However, Gines did get a once in a lifetime opportunity to compete in a high level poker game with the best pros in the business.
