WCOOP Awards over $50 Million
Yesterday the 2009 World Championships of Online Poker finished up at PokerStars and the series prize pool total for all forty five events came to over $50 million. This is an amazing amount of money awarded over just a few days and it goes to show how PokerStars remains the number one poker room on the internet.
The 2009 WCOOP main event was the last tournament to take place and it took two days to complete. The event saw a total of 2,144 players who posted the $5,200 buy-in to compete. Over $10.72 million was up for grabs during the event.
The WCOOP total prize pool for all events came to $50,058,800 which is far more than last year’s total of $39,958,000. This really is an amazing feat as the very first WCOOP took place back in 2002, which was only seven years ago. The first WCOOP had only $730,000 in total prize pools.
The first main event back in 2002 had only 238 competitors and the top prize was just over $65,000. While this year’s main event winner earned over $1.7 million. As the tournament series has progressed it should only get bigger and better from here!
