WCOOP at Poker Stars Starts Soon

Last year was the biggest World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) with a guaranteed $10 million in prize money put up by Poker Stars. By the time the 18 events were over, the prize money had risen to over $18.5 million.


The WCOOP as grown exponentially over the years to become a must play tournament for most poker players both professional and amateur. In the first tournament in 2002 the winner got $65, 450. One year later the winner received $222,750. 2004 brought $424,945 and 2005 saw the winner bring home $566,342. Last year it was won by poker pro J.C. Tran with him pocketing over $600,000 to go along with the WCOOP bracelet.


This year will be even bigger. Poker Stars has added five card draw and 2-7 triple draw as well as a few more tournaments of all your favorite poker games. The main event, a $2600 buy in no-limit holdem event will be guaranteed a $5 million purse.
