WPT Removes Borgata Winter Open from Schedule
The World Poker Tour recently announced in a press update that the Borgata Winter Open will not be taking place on the WPT Season VII schedule. It had been rumored for months that the popular event would not be on the WPT scheduled and it has now been confirmed.
The Borgata usually hosts two stops on the WPT schedule. The first stop took place this year in September and had a $5 million guarantee. The amount of players who showed up to the event was less than last year and the Borgata had to put up a $50,000 overlay to cover the guarantee.
It is still unknown if the Borgata stops will return to the WPT Season VIII schedule even though it has been removed from the 2009 schedule. However the Borgata Winter Open will still take place just not as a WPT stop. The event will have reduced buy-ins and changes in the dates have been made.
The main event of the Open will be a $3,000 plus $200 buy-in deep stack. Blinds will be seventy five minutes long with players starting with 50,000 in chips. The Open will take place January 25th through the 29th and the guarantee is still being figured at this time.
