Will Fry Wins EPT Budapest Tournament
The European Poker Tour held its first stop in Budapest on Saturday November 1st and five hundred and thirty one players participated in the inaugural event. Only one could win the tournament and Will Fry of Nottingham managed to outlast his opponents and take home the first place prize.
This event was the first major live tournament for Fry, age 28. Fry was up against Ciprian Hrisca from Romania in heads up play, but managed to hold his own and achieve the victory. After the win, Fry jokingly stated that he had been playing poker since he “came out of the womb”.
Fry also stated that he would be using his winnings to pay his mortgage, donate to charity and also help his family. Fry won €595,839 for his first place finish, definitely not bad for his first major live tournament. He also won a seat to the €10,000 EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo next April, with the possibility to win even more money.
The event took place at the Sofitel Hotel in Budapest, Hungary and many players from around the world were in attendance, including seventy one players from Hungary. It was a great turnout for the country’s first EPT event.
