World Cup of Poker Won by German Team
PokerStars recently announced the winner of the World Cup of Poker V which took place last week at the Atlantis Resort and Casino in the Bahamas. The event saw several teams competing for the top prize of $100,000. The team to outlast them all was the German team.
Each team was created with players from each country’s top tournament leader board from last year as well as from two qualifiers from the free roll tournaments. There was also a nominated player to the teams as well. The players then competed to determine the chip count for the World Cup of Poker V final table. The final table was played as a tag team event.
The German players who made up the winning team are: Georg Geissler, Bastian Wulff, Malte Strothmann, Peter Schmidt and Jan Heitmann. They all played longer than the other teams during the sixteen hour challenge at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.
Second place went to the New Zealand team which was represented by Lee Nelson, Richard Grace, Nicholas Webb, Wayne Lo and Jordan Bryant. They won a $70,000 prize. Third place went to the Italian Team of Luca Pagano, Pennisi Omar, Michele Migliore, Valeriano Bilancetti and Fabrizio Villa who won $50,000.
The United States team finished in fourth place for a prize of $30,000 with its team members of Greg Raymer, Shaun Deeb, Jarred Gabin, Bruce Armstrong and Benjamin Zamani. British players took fifth place and the Poland team took sixth.
Lativia, Mexico and Canada’s teams finished that order and all earned $10,000 for competing. PokerStars also gave each member of the team that made it to the final a prize package that included travel and accommodations as well as a seat at the PCA.
